Downward Facing Dog

Downward facing dog is one of the most common postures in yoga practice.  It stretches the whole of the back of the body, including the hamstrings, the lower back and the shoulders.  It’s also a great pose for developing strength in the wrists and arms.  However, in the early stages of your practice, if you find Downward Dog too demanding on your wrist strength you could always work with Dolphin Pose instead.

In a vinyasa practice, Downward Dog often functions as a transitional pose between other asanas.
